SmellMaxxing & ScentMaxxing
1. Masking the smell of alcohols
So called „alcohol neutralizers” are compounds of low volatile materials which affect the smell of a finished product (i.e. alcohol-based perfumes) as little as possible, but which mask the bad odor of not enough distilled or impure alcohol. Some alcohols contain denaturing agents with a bad smell (i.e. ketone). In this case, a masking compound helps to cover the unpleasant peak of this odor.
2. Long-lasting properties of perfume compounds and “fixation”
Fixation of a perfume means conserving its scent over a longer period. This property can be achieved by using low volatile fragrance materials like different woods, patchouli, musk, amber, moss, vanilla, tolu, benzoin, tonka, opoponax, civet, cinnamon, heliotrope, etc., reaching the top of their intensity only after a certain time and maintaining it as long as possible. Furthermore, raw materials which do not emit a strong smell, but which are able to extend the long-lasting properties of other fragrances are being used. A well-balanced and professionally developed fragrance compound has automatically a good fixation. On the other hand, a compound which is overloaded with low volatile materials does not a priori guarantee a good fixation, because the different fragrances may neutralize each other.
